Remanufacturing Process
Disassemble and Clean Screen |
While our machinists are making replacement parts the guys in the shop have already
begun disassembling the screen. The motor and gearbox are removed and the screen's grid
is pulled out.
Once the grid is stretched out the thorough cleaning begins. The inside
and outside of the screen's frame and grid are pressure washed while the grid is
disassembled. All the axles, spacers, dogbones and damaged parts are discarded while the
"good" elements are put through further cleaning and inspection. |
|
A burr bench, or tumbler, is used to remove solids buildup and an acid wash is used to
finish elements. Once cleaned,"good" elements are sorted and even minor disfigurements
are scrapped. (The straightening of elements is not practical because it elongates the
link and does not fit well with axles.) Elements that are not bent or damaged are then
set aside for the re-lacing of the grid.

The top link in Image 1 below left, was considered not acceptable due to slight bend and wear
around axle holes. The bottom link in Image 1 is a new, laser cut link. Great care is taken to
not use any potentially faulty parts. We will not jeopardize a quality remanufacture
to save a few dollars. Below right in Image 2, the rejected link is on the right, and new link is on left. |
