Lead Material Prep

Position Summary:

Responsible for the Material Prep team; quality control and ensuring team members stay on task and within strict schedules to assure deadlines are met. Takes a lead role and is an active participant in gathering parts from pallets and using power tools, air tools, tumblers and tapping arms to complete the material prep process of the parts per the print given.

Responsibilities

  • Works with and receives priority direction from Production Manager to ensure meeting of scheduled product ship dates
  • Assists in providing employees with sufficient training to ensure quality and efficient production of our products & assists team with day-to-day activities
  • Supervises employees within company guidelines by continuously offering corrective, disciplinary, or promotional actions
  • Assists in the employee review process within the department; maintains effective notes and writes employee reviews  Actively promotes manufacturing techniques, offers supportive ideas, and reports negligence
  • Assist in the continuous development of outlined department procedures
  • Responsible for maintaining and submitting routine departmental shop supply procurement sheets
  • Ability to inspect equipment, structures or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures within the defined field
  • Planning: must be forward thinking with the ability to plan ahead
  • Safety and security: is able to observe safety and security procedures and use equipment and materials properly
  • Keep department organized to maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Direct and assist in pickling procedures
  • Liaison to department leads in regards to required, lost or misplaced materials
  • Gather parts from pallets and use power tools, air tools, tumbler and tapping arms to complete the material prep process
  • Grind, deburr and sand parts according to the drawing that is provided
  • Tap holes to proper size using mechanical tapping arm indicated by drawing
  • Performs all other duties as directed by Management

Competencies & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Previous management experience of 5 or more employees preferred
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) preferred
  • Ability to delegate tasks while still keeping overall responsibility
  • Ability to motivate and encourage employees to work to their full potential
  • Mechanically inclined with the ability to learn and seek out new skills
  • Ability to read, interpret, and explain all types of simple assembly and material prints and BOMs
  • Excellent knowledge of shop machines and precision measuring tools
  • Excellent working knowledge of air tools, power tools, grinders & hand tools
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and as a team, and within tight deadlines
  • Extremely organized, acute attention to detail, and demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness
  • Ability to safely operate (or learn to operate) a forklift, pallet jack and/or overhead crane while moving materials around the shop
  • Comfortable working in a non-temperature controlled environment
  • Ability to adapt to the work environment, deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events, while promoting a positive outlook
  • Required to wear PPE equipment at all times while on production floor
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. repeatedly and remain on feet for long periods of time
  • Extremely dependable; consistently at work and on time (notifies if late or absent prior to being late or absent), follows instruction, responds to management direction and solicits feedback to improve performance
  • Excellent team member; driven to contribute to the team effort
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; speaks clearly and concisely in positive or negative situations
  • Continuously seeking and implementing methods to increase product quality, customer service, and company efficiency

Position hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 4:00pm. Pay depends on knowledge/experience/abilities. Benefits include: health, dental, 401(k), holiday, vacation, long-term disability.
