Did you know that taken alone, U.S. manufacturing would be the ninth-largest economy in the world? You may also not realize that an estimated 2 million of nearly 3.5 million manufacturing jobs expected to be created during the next decade will likely go unfilled due to a shortage of skilled workers. We share those statistics with you to illustrate the significance of domestic manufacturing and the importance of educating and training the next generation of engineers and manufacturers.
October was an important month for us – Manufacturing Month. This is a time when manufacturers across the country work with universities, school systems, local governments and myriad other groups to celebrate domestic manufacturing and encourage students of all ages to take an interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics studies.
We at Hydro-Dyne Engineering take great pride in being one of the only companies in our industry that performs all equipment design, fabrication, assembly and testing in-house. Last month we opened the doors of our 110,000 sq. ft. facility to a number of groups, including St. Petersburg College, Largo High School and elected officials from Pinellas County to name a few.
It is extremely important for us to support interest and education in STEM curriculum – to keep our equipment and services at the pinnacle of quality now, and well into the future. When you’re passionate about something, it makes the task at hand easy, and it’s safe to say we had a blast hosting students and others at our facility last month! Students asked great questions as we took them through the design and manufacturing process. It even got a little competitive during our assembly challenges!
We employ some of the most talented individuals in their fields, which is why we’ve called Pinellas County home for nearly 40 years. If you’re interested in joining our team, or learning more about engineering and manufacturing, let us know. We’d love to share our passion with you during October, or any other time of the year!
