Mechanical Design Engineer

Position Summary:

Responsible for designing new equipment and migrating existing drawings from AudoCAD into Inventor 3D; providing engineering structural analysis calculation reports, simulations, product compliance documentation, OEM requirement specification, and electro-mechanical integration and facilitation for product and installation requirements; department focus on standardization and automated design.


  • Developing new products, sustaining engineering, and project engineering support for installations
  • Designing and engineering large scale stainless steel mechanical equipment and systems
  • Updating of standard drawings and designs
  • Automating design for efficient production
  • Specify, design, analyze, simulate, test, document and release to manufacturing mechanical systems
  • Perform tolerance analysis, material analysis, mechanical loads analysis, stress analysis, thermal analysis, dynamic analysis and molding analysis
  • Identify and address issues of manufacturability and requirements for transfer to production throughout the product development process
  • Determine and implement techniques to improve productivity, increase efficiencies, cut costs, take advantage of opportunities and maintain state-of-the-art practices
  • Manage and monitor own workload ensuring accuracy and thoroughness in all areas
  • Ability to work independently and productively with little supervision
  • Ability to coordinate and communicate with manufacturing team concerning product design and deadlines

Competencies & Qualifications

  • BS Mechanical or Engineering discipline with an emphasis on Structural and Mechanical Design
  • 4+ years working in a mechanical engineering environment
  • Proficient in design software such as AutoCAD 2004 +, AutoCAD 3D, Inventor V.11 or SolidWorks
  • Must be familiar with machinery elements, drawings and details
  • Excellent computer skills and proficient in Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Excellent communication skills in positive or negative situations, both written and verbal
  • Extremely organized, acute attention to detail and documentation, and demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities and use time efficiently
  • Self-motivated, comfortable working independently with the ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Excellent team member; driven to contribute to the team effort
  • Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment and deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events, while promoting a positive outlook
  • Dependability; consistently at work and on time (or notifies if late or absent prior to being late of absent), follows instruction, responds to management direction and solicits feedback to improve performance
